I have been noticeably absent from the blog lately, so instead of prolonging the silence I wanted to report that I will be taking somewhat of a blog staycation. I will still post, but with less frequency than previously and my posts will be smaller (quick little snippets of design, pet, products I love, etc…). So things may look and feel a little different!

I found the above video showing a dog in Japan after the Tsunami looking sadly bewildered and sticking close by his injured friend (another dog). I found the video to be heartbreaking. I realize there are countless people out there who need help/aid, but I don’t think that means we should also forget the pets who are in an even worse situation if they are hurt and/or separated from their people. I have decided that I am not just going to donate to humanitarian causes doing work in Japan, but I am also going to split up some of my money and put it towards the pets/animals that need help.
In doing some research I found World Vets: International Aid for Animals. They currently have efforts underway to help animals in Japan and as of Thursday, March 17th had two doctors in Japan working with animal rescue organizations there. They are also sending pallets of animal foods and supplies to Japan.
World Vets has set up a page on their site containing information about their efforts in Japan. This page also has a place to make a donation. If you have made or are considering making a donation to the efforts in Japan, please consider putting a small amount towards World Vets’ efforts, too.
In case you are Durango-local and in case you are interested, I am having my very first little showing of my work. Starting tomorrow, Friday, March 18th and continuing for about a month, I will have some of my custom pet portraits framed and on display at Durango Bagel.

I have been working for quite some time on developing a NEW MOCHIE-ROO portrait product … after a couple of months of toying with it and tweaking it, I am so very thrilled to announce a new addition – DIGITAL PET PORTRAITS! From a photo, I will create a digital pet portrait. Go to my Etsy shop to order one of these new portraits!
These pet portraits have a half-tone, dot pattern which is somewhat subtle and has been described as being similar to half-tone printing, comic books illustrations, and pop art. I am offering these portraits in 4×6″ and 5×7″ sized. These portraits also have the portrait subject’s name in a decorative font; and are professionally printed on Hahnemuhle 100% cotton, acid free, photo rag, 308 gsm fine art paper; a fine art paper of the highest quality.
I have these portraits priced at what I hope to be a very affordable price-point: $22 for a 4×6″ (plus $3 postage) and $28 for a 5×7″ (plus $3 postage).
