WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTO

I need a photo that shows your pet’s face clearly in detail. I will work from the photo of your pet and reproduce that photograph as an original watercolor painting. A photo that is not blurry or fuzzy is important. It is also best if there are not a lot of other people or pets in the photo.

The best way to explain what makes a good photo is to show you. Here are some examples of GOOD photos:

All of these photos show the animals’ faces clearly and in detail. Don’t focus on the background of your photo too much; unless you explicitly request a specific background, I will use my artist’s judgement in creating a background whether that means leaving the background white, modifying the background in the photo, or reproducing the background in the photo.
If you have questions about whether a specific photo will work, please feel free to contact me and we’ll discuss it.

TAKING A GOOD PHOTO TIPS

  1. Use natural light, not a flash. If you are shooting indoors, postion your dog in a place where there is plenty of light from a door or window. We want to be able to see those beautiful eyes, not some giant glowing orbs!
  2. If shooting outdoors, plan your photo session for the morning or late afternoon. Avoid shadows falling across your dogs body, or dappled sun. Partly cloudy skies make for great photos.
  3. Get down to your subject’s eye level, or raise the dog up, as on a chair.
  4. Get in closeto capture the details of your pup!
  5. Engage the dog – call her name, offer a treat, talk to her.
  6. Take many shots, we can sort through them to find the best ones!
